When you are running your heating system, you may notice that some rooms in your Toronto area home are just not getting the same type of warmth that other rooms are. This can actually be a more common problem than you may have thought at first.
There are many reasons why airflow might not be consistent throughout the house. Some of these common problems can include:
- A dirty air filter,
- Coil problems,
- Or the blower is not functioning properly.
If the blower is not functioning properly, it can reduce the amount of air that is flowing through the air hander, which means that the air flow will die off as it moves through the various branches of the ductwork.
You may also discover that, from time to time, the ductwork can separate. The special tape (not your traditional duct tape that you can buy at any hardware store, but a stronger adhesive style that is designed specifically for use with heating and air conditioning ducts) could break loose, creating gaps through which the heated (or cooled) air can escape.
In many situations, an HVAC specialist will determine that there is a design flaw in the duct work that is creating the problem. You may also discover that it’s a simple matter of opening a door. So let’s look at the three ways you can improve the chances of achieving consistent temperatures throughout every room in your home.
1. Keep bedroom and bathroom doors open when heating the house. If you close a bedroom door that is close to the thermostat, then the air temperature around that thermostat will take longer to heat up, meaning the bedroom will get warmer than the area by the thermostat.
You will also be restricting air flow throughout the house when you keep doors closed.
2. Have a thorough inspection of your ductwork. Contact an HVAC specialist to come to your home and perform an inspection of your ducts. This will help ensure that it is moving the air through your home properly and that there are no leaks.
3. Check the blower is moving the air through the handler properly. This should be done by an experienced professional so that you know it’s working properly.
