It’s summertime and that means calls left and right being made to HVAC repair companies. This is the time of year when air conditioning systems tend to break down. It’s also the time of year when they are needed the most.
If you have an air conditioning problem, understand that the service repairs can be backed up for weeks in some cases. It doesn’t matter where you live or how important you think the situation is; in most cases a lack of air conditioning is not considered a life-threatening situation.
The common reason there are so many calls for AC repair in the summer.
Aside from the obvious fact that the majority of people calling for AC repair happen to call during the summer (because that’s when they are used most), there is another common and unfortunate reason why this happens.
It’s because few people actually have their air conditioning system serviced before the cooling season starts. Before or after every cooling season, the air conditioning system in your home should be professionally serviced. This could include cleaning, inspecting the system, replacing the filter or other components that are getting old or are beginning to fail.
Even window based air conditioning units should be cleaned and inspected every year to ensure that they function properly throughout the summer.
Fortunately, this summer has been relatively cool and that means there hasn’t been a high demand for air conditioning. Still, if your central air conditioning system fails, you will likely need to have patience before an HVAC repair specialist shows up on a service call.
Getting upset or angry at the HVAC company isn’t going to solve anything and it’s not going to magically get you an earlier repair schedule. If the heat returns and you need relief for health reasons, you can purchase an inexpensive floor standing fan unit for a bedroom to help while you wait for your AC to be fixed.
