As summer has now arrived, it is always a good idea to ensure that your air conditioning system is running efficiently. A simple walk downstairs to ensure that your furnace air filter is clean or is in need of replacement can often prevent a service call. In fact, most of our “freeze up”, no cooling service calls are caused by a dirty or blocked air filter. The other common scenario is a low refrigerant situation whereby there is a leak somewhere in the refrigerant loop.
Refrigerant leaks in older air conditioning systems often pose a repair or replace quandary for our clients.
Should they repair their system with R22 refrigerant (often referred to as Freon) or replace the system with the current R410A refrigerant? Obviously, it is their decision but here are some compelling reasons we offer them to consider:
- R22 refrigerant is currently being phased-out of the HVAC industry.
- New air conditioning systems offer a 10 year parts and compressor warranty.
- There are Ontario Power Authority (OPA) rebates available of $250.00 and $400.00 depending on the efficiency of the system being purchased.
