In a previous article, we talked about a common problem that many homeowners have when they are running their heating or air conditioning system. You may have radiant heating and that means this wouldn’t apply to you, but if you run a forced hot air system or central air in your Toronto home, then you will have a fan that moves the air throughout the house.
Some homeowners will inadvertently leave the switch for the fan in the ‘on’ position, which means that it will be running all of the time. They usually mean to have it in the ‘auto’ position, which means that it will only run when the heating or cooling system is engaged.
There is a good reason, though, why you may want to keep that switch for the fan in the on position. When you do this, you will be moving the air throughout your home on a consistent basis. This will not only lead to better filtering of the air throughout your house, but it will also help to create a more even temperature throughout the house.
Most homeowners will notice that some rooms tend to get warmer than others when relying on a forced air system. That’s because some rooms may be smaller and will heat up faster. If the thermostat (which is usually in the hallways) is in an area that heats up faster than a bedroom, for example, then it will always be warmer there.
Running the fan on a constant basis will continue to move the air throughout the home, helping to balance the temperature across all rooms in the house (assuming the doors to those rooms are open).
